If you are a fan of Drake, then you know what occurred this past Friday. If not, YouTube it. I thought long and hard if I should even blog this, but the point I want to make is worth it. Even though this might just blend in with the massive amounts of blogs that will just be people trying to 'stay exclusive' or is cruising the bandwagon for sake of saving face. Read this, then I'll explain:

This bottle of Opus One is low but my spirits are high my friends. I am about 2 hours away from Toronto, CA where I will be spending the next chunk of time recovering from a surgery that I now must have. I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done. On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world. Its funny when I read comments from previous fans who have lost interest because of the radio play and exposure I have. I just want to assure anyone reading that nothing has changed on my end. I refuse to get comfortable, I refuse to fall in line and follow anyone elses formulas. I still work as if So Far Gone had never dropped and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to gain entry to this game.

Now, with that ... typed, I can post what I really wanted to say. This type of stuff inspires the hell outta me. It's not everyday that you meet A PERSON, much less a rapper, that is so willing to tell you how he feels about something; especially from a vulnerable point of view. It really makes me realize that it's okay to be yourself. I mean, Drake didn't help me come to that conclusion, lol, but you catch my drift. It's just a great thing to see someone who is unafraid of their true character. That's what I live/stand for. Be yourself and always stand for what you believe in. It's the only way to achieve REAL success.

And btw, I plan on looking back and reading this one day. So I'm gonna talk to myself now: Hey what's up self? Have you taken this advice you just preached? That no one else wanted to hear from you? If not, then make it happen!!!!

But really though, this video makes me think. I've watched one or two movies that capitalize on the fact that there are always options.. in every situation. Once a choice is made, everything else falls into place accordingly. These movies show that with every decision an alternate world is created for each choice. Crazy shit. But makes you think... pretty dope. If Nas had signed to Def Jam in 92-93.. and THEN made Illmatic.. it would have probably been a different album.

Is this a big deal to me? Hell no! Now let me explain:

First of all, if you're not familiar with the Don Imus/Rutger's female basketball team story...google it.

Ash had an appearance scheduled yesterday at Rutgers and prior to that he posted the above status on his Twitter. After a couple minutes and (im sure) a few @replies complaining about it... he took the status down. He realized that it could possibly cause unwanted attention and did what any smart person with a debut album in stores would do.

Was this a racist comment? No. It really wasn't. Was it a stupid thing to say? One might say so. But biggest of all.. does it f*cking matter? Uhhh...no!

All these homo ass mofo's that took a screenshot of the status in the 2.5 minutes that it was even available for viewing are attention seeking pricks. Period.

Go to a predominently black high school and/or gathering for that matter and listen to one of the conversations. I can assure that you will hear some of the most racist shit ever about white people. It's the neverending double standard. Most black people think its completely okay to say sly racist shit about white people or Latinos or Asians with no recourse. But the moment someone that's not black says something that even REFERS to being black, its a problem. Nappy headed hoes? How is that racist? Listen to a rap CD and tell me you dont hear 'white bitches' at least once. But Eminem says 'black bitch' on a song in 1980-something and people flip out. People just really need to get over that shit. Point blank.

This might not matter to you, but I'm pretty damn happy. One side of me says 'YESSSSSS' and the more arrogant side of me says 'About damn time'. Lol. This is the new firmware for the iPhone. It includes over 100 updates and new features. Some of which should have been a part of the device since the beggining. But anyway, Apple is finally throwing in the copy and paste feature!. Whaaaat?! No more writing sh*t down from your iPhone? YES! Lol. The new firmware will also bring MMS functionality which will make picture messaging, etc ALOT less of a hassle. That part of the firmware's downfalls never really bothered me. But it seems like Apple kept an open ear to the users in considering what was necessary for the new firmware. Steve Jobs for Prez in 2012? Haha. Nah, I'm kidding. Completely.

*Edit: I took a listen to this after class, pretty dope. Mr Rogers does a good job of NOT ruining the mixtape. I live in the south, so the Chopped and Screwed phenom is something I can understand more than some people. Seems like the DJ actually cared about how the songs sound. Most CnS'd projects I've heard just sounds homemade. With the pitch turned down and the tempo slowed down. Lame. Now, I don't plan on replacing the regular version with this or anything, but its not horrible.

Besides Drake I don't really think Young Money is that great as a group. We'll see when the album drops though. Maybe Jae Millz will get good again, who knows.

So, I was reading Photowill's Blogspot. He had a post about his rendition of absolutely integral rules for a first date. They were kinda interesting, but way too look for me to copy and paste. Not that it's impossible, just way too long. No one wants to read a book on a blog. But anyway... as I was reading through, I came across a HILAROUS rule. And I quote:

"11) Make sure you have suitable music, if its your first date, you might not wanna play any k-ci and jojo, r.kelly, or PLIES! lol"

HAHA, I about died laughing. Not that it was such a great joke or anything, but Plies is from right across the bridge where I live. And he gets no respect around here. But it's just funny that he doesn't in Canada either. Haha.

Anticipation...

I believe that building anticipation is about 40% of being a good artist. It's crazy. Some of my favorite artists take it to the VERY LAST second of possible anticipation, and then release music. It's like an art if you ask me. Now, think about this for a second. In order to build anticipation, you have to leak miscellaneous music first. And this pretty much has to be free or relatively easy to acquire. Then people start wanting more... and that's when you DONT GIVE IT TO EM! What? It's mind-blowing. Anyone reading this probably isn't looking at it the way I do, therefore not even understanding it. But, it is a sick cycle. And then, JUST when people might move on to care about something else... you hit em w/ timeless music. Timeless music > any other art form.
